No Allergies

Well, we have ruled out allergies for Rece, minus a slight allergy to mold. But she suspects a digestive problem and suggested that we do a dairy elimination trial of 8 weeks. So this weekend that is our mission. Any suggestions would be great! She also is suggesting us seeing an audiologist. He had fluid build up in his ear and as far as we knew he has never been prone to ear infections but we don't know how long it has been there. I don't suspect a hearing problem but it is better to rule it out.

Lily has been milk-free since she was about 15 months old. She's 5 yrs old now. At first, I was very intimidated by the thought of going dairy free. But, we immediately noticed a difference in her when we took milk products away. She no longer cried all day and her stomach wasn't like a brick anymore. Also, the dark circles under her eyes went away. She still had lots of sensory issues etc, but it certainly helped her to be more comfortable. We tried to give her soy milk but she hated it no matter what we tried to add to it. She was still eating baby cereal at the time, so we made it was rice milk and she would eat that. Due to the fact that she wasn't getting calcium from milk products, her GI doc (Lily also has reflux) told us to crush Tums into her cereal or applesauce. That worked for several years until we FINALLY got her to drink fortified West Soy Vanilla milk. We tried Silk brand first, but my husband tasted it and said it was so bitter that he didn't blame her for not liking it. It was a long process to get her to drink soy milk, but about a year and a half ago, she suddenly decided she liked it. Also, we found that Parkay squeeze butter doesn't have any milk products in it. There are also quite a few snack foods that are milk free as well such as oatmeal and cinnamon Teddy Grahams. I always check the labels to make sure that there isn't casein or whey in a food product because those are milk derivatives. I ordered a cook-book off the internet that had milk, egg and nut free recipes in it. Lily loved the pancake recipe from that book as well as a couple of other things. When I make mashed potatoes, I use soy milk and parkay and she seems to like them just fine. Sorry this is so long, I just remember how overwhelmed I felt with Lily's milk/egg allergy dx and I wish someone could have given me a few pointers. If you would like some recipes, just let me know. Basically, the main difference in my cooking now is that I don't make casseroles anymore, unless I have safe left-overs for Lily. Over the years we have found that Lily can tolerate a small amount of milk in certain foods, such as rolls, but we have to be careful not to make "exceptions" too many days in a row or else she is miserable. I hope that the milk free diet is helpful for your son!
