Right now Ds gets two days a week through my private insurance. In Aug. my company changed hands and the new insurance plan doesn't charge the specialist copay ($25) per visit for OT visits. Hoooray! I would like him to have some sensory breaks in the middle of the day and some help with his handwriting at school but I doubt that will ever happen. The private OT is way more comprehensive than what the school provides but I think the additional work in school will help cut down on frustration/behavior problems.
Graham, Miles, and Anson get OT through our private clinic. They have a full sensory gym but they've also worked on things like frustration tolerance, social skills, task attention, etc. Graham right now is having some OT through the school specifically for a program called 'How Does Your Motor Run'. I don't know too much about what they are doing other than it's supposed to help him regulate his attention and alertness. Schools are notorious for only doing what specifically impacts the educational process. I feel lucky that we're getting OT at school at all.
I do know that they are using Dx and codes for things like hypotonia and apraxia for insurance purposes. That's the only way to get coverage. My kids are low toned and clumsy in their movements, but not too bad.
HTH. Don't be afraid to approach a clinic to ask about what it would take to get coverage for your kid thru your insurance. They quite often can tell you what is needed. Good luck!
He was getting it thru a therepy center for fine motor skills and tested out. NOW the school district wants me to persue another OT eval at the therepy center for Sensory Processing Issues.
So now I'm on the list for yet another eval for sensory issues that are popping up with my son.
They still focus on gross/fine motor issues with my son. I also do swimming and gymnastics for his low muscle tone. He's upper body has gotten really strong from him doing all these activites.
