First off, happy anniversary!

You can take your probably PDD-NOS dx and call the school system for an evaluation for services. Once you call, they have to evaluate him within a certain time frame and provide you with any services he qualifies for. That could range from ST to OT to developmental preschool. That should help you understand his needs a little better.

You could also look for a play based social group. We are in one that is based at our OT's office. You could pursue private therapies if you think he needs them - OT and ST are common. ST can handle pragmatic speech issues as well, not just articulation issues. My son also sees a SW, and has a psychiatrist because we chose to medicate him for rages and ADD. Local support groups like ASA are a great source of information, especially for which therapists handle ASD locally, where to find a play group, etc.

I hear you about having some grief even if you weren't surprised by the dx. Depending on the day, my grief comes and goes and it's been almost two years from our dx. My son is 9 and was dx at 7. Coming here is a great support because these moms get it. I find comfort just in reading the posts. Join us for chat some night - Thurs and Sat 10 pm EST.

Welcome to the board. I hope to get to know you better over time. We're all in this together.
