Happy--but afraid to get my hopes up

I feel like Lily has become a different child in some ways during the last week. She has been giving me hugs and kisses and has even told me that she loves me! She also gave her big sister several hugs today. This is certainly not her normal behavior. I have felt so much more connected with her lately. She has been answering questions relevantly and not perseverating on odd things like railroad track crossings. AND she watched the entire "Bee Movie" without leaving the room once last night! She has never done that before. Also, we (her teacher and I) have been working on getting her to say "hello" to the teacher when we get to school in response to the teacher saying "good morning". She's been doing that all week! Also, she's been saying "bye" to me without being prompted. She has had a few times in the past where we have seen more connection with others, but never to this degree and never for this long a time. I want so badly to think that something has finally clicked in her brain, but then I don't want to be crushed when things go back to normal. Has anyone else gone through this? She has been giving her dad hugs at bedtime for a while now, but she usually won't hug anyone else. Now I'm the one getting the hugs and kisses during the day, but not her dad. It's so confusing. Lily has been quite verbal for a couple of years now (she's 5.5), but never conversational speech. I never felt like I knew who she was. Does that make sense? Now I feel like I'm getting a glimpse into who she really is. For the first time, I feel like it's possible that she actually may want to have friends in the future. I feel much more hopeful, but cautious too. UGH!! Why is ASD so darn confusing? It's like a roller coaster ride that you never wanted on in the first place and that no one will let you off of!
Amy~mom to Natalie & Lily

Amy, that is AWESOME!!!!
Amy,
Peter has gone through a few periods where he suddenly had a skills or language surge. There usually followed a short behavior regression and then everything would even out: his behavior would return to normal, and he retained the new skills.
I really hope this is what is happening with Lily. Please keep us in the loop.
