I know toe-walking can cause the achilles tendon to shorten which can cause ankle problems. This has not happened in my case, probably because I am usually barefoot when home and I toe-walk less when barefoot (the bones in my feet fan out -thanks EDS).
Ouch! tendons tearing does not sound like fun! Have you seen a doc to a PT about it?
One think you may want to check out is your vitamin C intake. Vitamin C builds collagen, which makes tendons, ligaments etc. if your C is low, this could be a contributing factor to any tendon or ligament problems. Try taking a megadose -like 4-8 grams (yes grams) per day of C and see if it helps.
