Question about Autism conference
| Wed, 05-07-2008 - 5:00pm |
We have the opportunity to go to the Autism conference at Penn State, but I'm unsure of what to do with my son.

It is hard to say where he would do best but I will say it will be ok no matter what you decide.
One thing I have learned over the years is to let go and give it a shot. Sometimes being to worried and not letting things happen is worse than giving everyone a chance, ya know? Prepare those involved, make the preparations you can and then let him have that experience and let yourself have that week you want/need.
The pros for the SIL is it si someone he already knows. She knows him, knows his dx (I assume) and still agrees so just try to prep her with whatever you can to make it easier for her and let her go for it if you want. It will give you a nice week.
Pro for the child care there: If it si an autism conference they already know all the tricks and such to work with kids with ASD, it will be a good experience for him to have time to socialize in a structured understanding environment and he will be with you at night I assume. You may want to try that too.
Either way, good luck! Really go for it one way or another. I really would recomend it.
Hey, I'm going to the conference because we live near by.
Heather have you already registered for the conference?
I have not yet registered, I'm still dithering about which sessions I really want on Thursday.
Heather,
Sorry to bother you again, but do you know if you have to register for the conference before you register for the Children's institute?
Yes, you must be registered for the conference before you register for the children's institute.
