My first suggestion is have DH deal with this. Next have him ask to meet the new GF before the party. I agree its not far to have Liam b-day party get turned into meet the GF party. But just ask to meet her before hand. As for MIL feelings, I'm guessing they have been divorced for a while now, and its a fact of life, that he has GF's.

It stinks that it will be the first time you meet her, but I personally wouldn't tell my FIL he couldn't bring his guest.

I agree with your DH doing it.. less tension and i wouldnt want to be involved. Since MIL is going I don't see why it would be unreasonable for her not to come including if i was the GF i would feel awkward too since she has not met anyone.

OMG Janel i could have written your post!!! to make matters worse, my MIL doesnt get along w/my side of the fam either so bdays/holidays are absolute nightmares!! i seriously laugh looking back on Jassys baby pics and seeing wh was there at the time...he even broought a *friend* when he came down to meet Jas! i didnt know any better then, and ive learned to just accept such is life, you cant change it, just enjoy Liam and his special day as much as possible, and dont let their pettiness get you down...i know, easier said than done ;) but the important thing is he is surrounded by people who love him, no matter who they may bring along as their *date* HTH! (((hugs)))

Actually, we sent FIL a email asking not to bring the gf out of respect for us and MIL.
