I'm a nanny. I adore my job, and I hate potty training. HATE.

I am just putting her on the potty when she shows signs that she has to go.

Annabelle wants to be ready, but it's just not connecting. She removes her clothes and diaper repeatedly all day long. She sits on the potty for 10 minutes at a time. Then she'll immediately run off and pee on the floor. So she wants to do it, but she's just not getting it. It's driving me insane because I'm 7 months pregnant and have not the patience or stamina for it!

I would be careful about how many times you force a child sit on the potty until they pee or poop. Especially if they do not want to be there. It could make them relate the potty to being unhappy, confused, angry, frustrated ... which could delay actually potty training and lasting results.

Boy do I feel out of place- I know not many people still post- but I am the only one with a boy potty training. William has been potty training for about a month. I started when he was telling me that he went poo and would grab the front of his diaper right before he would pee. With the summer weather, I just put him in big boy underwear and let him be in our yard- we have 7 acres and no one can see our yard. He figured out pretty quickly that pee running down your leg is no fun and quickly made a connection with the pee feeling before you go. It probably didn't hurt that he was also able to see daddy pee and although it might not be the best way, William learned to pee on a tree. When he first would go on the actual toilet, I would sit hit facing the tank to as closely as possible mimic standing. We did not have a little potty for him and we just have a step stool for him. We still are working on the kinks of overnight as he drinks so much milk and water in the afternoon/evening that he can't always hold it, but I REFUSE to buy pulls ups for overnight. I just double sheet the bed so it's easy enough to change at night if I have to. We still have accidents now and then, but he gets so into what he's playing that sometimes he just forgets. Oh well...at least we're on the right track for being PT by 2 :)

good luck! Catie is no where near being ready for potty training. She won't tell us if she's wet or dirty, doesn't even care if she's wet or dirty LOL! I was thinking about getting her a potty seat around her 2nd birthday. I'm not sure what kind, something pink and girly LOL!
