I know we're not supposed to have hot dogs, but I've been craving them.

i think it's the same concern as lunchmeat (the bacteria that I am totally blanking on the name of but begins with an "l") so as long as you heat them thoroughly first you should be fine. You may also want to check out getting nitrate free hot dogs if your going to be eating a lot of them. i totally get you though, I love hot dogs! I usually just make sure I get all-beef nitrate/nitrate free ones and cook them well.

Yeah, you just have to make sure you cook them well. Also you may want to do a little research on nitrate free meats. A friend of mine looked into getting nitrate free bacon and found out that it actually has more naturally occurring nitrates than the nitrate added ones. I'm no expert; just sharing what I've heard.

Buy the nitrate-free ones, they taste just as good to me! I can eat them and not feel too guilty (except for all the fat)!

Naturally occurring nitrates are much different than the chemical sodium nitrate that is added to meat, & our bodies respond much differently to them. Almost anything naturally occurring is better for you than additives :-)

That is usually the truth. True. Good to think about it that way. Thanks.

Ha ha - that's funny; I've been on a hot dog kick, too - partly 'cause they've been on sale + coupons but yeah, they are sooo good. I walked to a little mini mart around the corner just to get a can of chili, so I could make chili dogs. The "l" word is listeria, but just cook 'em, like everyone else said
