I am only 3.5 weeks out and have gushes from time to time but have stopped the constant flow. With my third child I bled for 9 weeks and finally called the doctor and they did an u/s and said everything looked good and I stopped bleeding right around that time. If you are at all concerned call but I bet you will stop in the next week or so. I always get AF back around 6 weeks PP even with exclusively breastfeeding - hard to tell that early if it is truly AF or just PP bleeding. If you are bleeding a lot or passing clots call your doctor right away!

I bled for 6 weeks with my first, and 4 weeks this time. You should have stopped by now. You might have a small piece of placenta still attached, as that is the most common reason of prolonged bleeding. I would tell your dr, who will maybe want to schedule a D&C. Good luck- that is way too long to bleed!

I stopped bleeding at 6 weeks. It wouldn't hurt to give a call in to the dr. Hope it goes away soon for you!

I should mention that I'm exclusively BF and I had a c-section, so they should have gotton all the placenta out right???

Actually c-sections are when placenta is more likely to be left behind ...

BUT - a piece of retained placenta also is likely to negatively impact milk supply. So since you aren't having a supply problem (assume you're not since you say you're exclusively breastfeeding), that's a good sign.

Still, I'd talk to your doc. It's unlikely (but not impossible) that it's "your period" since you are exclusively breastfeeding.

There is such thing as a 6 week bleed, which can resemble your period. But at 9 weeks, I'd highly expect for this to be over. I'm sure - as a previous poster noted - that it can be normal in some cases. But even in her case they checked for retained placenta ... which I think they should do for you too.

I have always gotten my period back around 6-7 weeks postpartum. I stopped bleeding around 4 weeks and just started AF at 6 weeks. In the past I have had a few regular cycles and then they get irregular for a few months coming back to regular than I get pregnant again:) Never used formula only breastfeeding and stil get AF back early!

What's your doc say? Are you using any sort of birth control? Sometimes birth control hormones can cause weird bleeding patterns. I know one of the last pills i tried had me spotting for 2 weeks out of every 4 weeks ... and that's when I said good-bye to all hormonal birth control (8 years ago).

I'd want to know too if I were you!
