I went to my first prenatal appointment and they said that we could do a 3D ultrasound and also get a video of our baby. Has any one done this before and how good does it turn out?

Thanks!

I've never gotten to do one YET. This office does them normally, both a regular 2D and also some 3D at the anatomy scan so that makes me EXTRA excited. The only thing I can tell you is I have seen some pretty neat pictures of people who've gotten to have them done. They do say it's better to do them when you are a tad further along I think 28-30 so baby is big enough and looking like baby. If they are to big they are not able to get as clear shots sometimes. Obviously mine will be around 20 weeks so baby will look like baby, just very skinny! Will they charge you for it or is it something included? I say go for it if you haven't ever had one, a neat way to see baby in the womb. I sure can't wait, I have so much excitement for all these reasons for my ultrasound.

Thanks for letting me know. I haven't seen one done either and I don't have friends around the area where I currently live in so its nice to have this ivillage to talk to people about pregnancy and expecting. Well they are charging like $113 dollars just to do my normal ultrasounds throughout the pregnancy then if I want to do the special ultrasound stuff I would have to pay 25$ or 30$ depending on whether you just want still photos or you want a video as well.

I'm always excited to see my baby when I get an ultrasound. My first time was just last week and it was just a relief to know that s(he) was alive and doing well and that s(he) will arrive on Christmas Eve!

I had it done for both of my boys and it was great to see them in 3D/4D!

I'm getting one soon with a private company. Everytime I go to an appt I get a regular one. Once I hit 26 weeks I will get the 4D one done.

I had a 3D/4D done on my son but that was nearly 8 years ago. He had a cleft lip so they wanted to see if they could get better pictures and see what they would be working with (surgery-wise) after he was born.

The images weren't anything special to me, probably because they were trying it for medical reasons and not to actual get a "good" picture LOL He was all smushed up in the cheeks!

I had it done with Nathan and they were amazing. I will be having it done with this baby as well. Here are pics of the U/S and then like a week after birth. :) He had his face smashed in my placenta, but you can still tell what he looks like.

He was definitely a cheeky lil guy :) I hope this next baby has them too. He has huge dimples to go along with them ;) His cheeks went away at around 18 months - 2 years :)
