It started about 2 weeks ago, a general fussiness around dinnertime and now it seems we have a full-blown case of COLIC :(

He just cries and fusses for hours, it's so hard for us to hear him so upset and not be able to help him. I'm dreading when my husband starts back at night school in two weeks

Ali Claire is a little colicky and I am praying it doesn't get worse (she is only 3 weeks now).

Maddie has a fussy period every evening and last night was pretty rough. I called the pediatrician today b/c she would not nurse but did take a small bottle at one point. She is so gassy and I know she is uncomfortable. I agree with you that it is really difficult to hear them upset and not to be able to help. I just felt like a failure last night when she refused to nurse and I could not calm her down.

Maddie was also constipated and had not had a BM for about 36 hours. About 20 minutes after hanging up with the pediatrician, she had the biggest diaper I have ever seen :)

Hugs to you! I hope he outgrows this phase quickly!

I just got the book "The Happiest Baby on the Block"...It's supposed to have tips on keeping babies happy and not crying/colicky.

Oh I had that book at one point! Darn it, I think I got rid of it though, Dillon was a surprise baby ;)

Well, tonight was a very good night, the best one for him in weeks. While my DH was getting dinner to the table, I stayed in the living room with Dillon, put on some classical music on and "we" danced around together for about 15 mins. He didn't fuss at all, just rested his head on my shoulder and looked around. He even let us put him in the bassinette while we ate. I gave him a bath, fed him and he was in bed by 8:30, all without any crying or fussing at all tonight, it was FANTASTIC!! :)

I'll try that routine tomorrow too, but I'm not holding my breath that it will work two nights in a row!

Aubrey is extremely colicky! It usually starts between 11pm and 1am and goes to about 3 - 4 am. It starts up again from about 11:30 am to around 3:00 pm. It is absolutely horrible! I have to swaddle her up really tight and walk all around the house bouncing on my toes for hours. The moment I sit down or try to set her down she'll wake up screaming again.

(((hugs))) We have 2 hours of fussy time from 8-10 but he can kinda be soothed with a lot of effort on my part. I'm the only one who can do it so I just pace and shush and hold the binky in.

I posted about Miranda being fussy. Good news! It lasted about 6 nights and then disappeared. I think it was gas and judging by most others posts, it sounds about the same for all of you. I think their little digestive systems are working hard when they are 3-4 weeks old.

I hope that is only it. Although I am also thinking some of it is what I am eating while breast feeding.

I thought it might be the same for me so I had cut out all dairy for 2 weeks and switched Aubrey to soy formula for the times when I had to supplement and her fussiness just got worse.
Is baby pooping okay? I have found that Aubrey will sometimes go 3-4 days between dirty diapers and the entire time is extremely painful for her and that's when we aren't getting sleep. Once she goes she will sleep almost constantly for the next couple of days until she gets all backed up again and we start the cycle over.
