Nathan has taken to his rice cereal like a pro so we're moving on to the next food. I'm thinking avocado. What are some others that people are going to try?

I'm sure some of it is environmental and possibly genetic predisposition, b/c my DS is super lean and like I said, I started him on cereal at 4 months.

I started my oldest on solids when he was about 4 months old. He didn't have any digestive issues (constipation) until he started drinking milk so we switched to soy at that point. He only drank soy for about 6 months and then was fine with regular milk.
I'd not heard that about a link to starting solids earlier and childhood obesity. My oldest is one of the best eaters I know in regards to trying foods and liking everything. He has a very broad palate. And not even a little chubby, he's very slim and he prefers fruit to sweets.
I wonder if the link is environmental, like parents who are overweight are just overfeeding baby too? I mean, I'm heavy myself but I've always allowed the child to dictate how much they want to eat (I don't force them, I give them reasonable portions and healthy food choices).
I started Dillon the same age as I did with Ian and so far, so good. Dillon isn't refusing anything, he's liking vegetables as much as fruit and he's opening his mouth to take bites. I'm keeping an eye out for any digestive troubles, but he's not had any. He's still having regular BM. I'm hoping that he has the same palate as Ian and will eat anything :)

To add on to what Dixie said, I know that the recommendation has been six months for a little while, b/c it was that when my DS was little too (he is almost 3 now), but some doctors choose to follow that and some don't.

No problem! I do not think a lot of doctors know that yet either. Of course it is whatever mommy thinks is best, but that is the new thing they are saying. Apparently they have done studies (I don't really know much behind the studies this is simply what the american academy of pediatrics website says) that says children who start solids at 6 months tend to have less digestive issues and other things to do with food. How true it is I am not sure. My sister and I started solids at the same age and she has digestive problems where as I do not. So really I think like 90% of it is what mommy and daddy think are best. But since it is new to this year I thought to share with you guys :)

We are not starting until 6 months either. The American Academy of Pediatrics actually just changed the guidelines and they are saying to wait now until 6 months. Which I planned on doing anyway but I guess that is the new recommendation. I am thinking sweet potatoes will be first (after rice cereal) because I like sweet potatoes lol.

After rice cereal, we did sweet potatoes next. Then avocado, bananas, apples, carrots, pears, and this week he'll try green beans. I'm pureeing everything in the Baby Bullet. So far, he's loving everything! And we can't seem to feed him fast enough, he opens his mouth big for each bite and he squeals in between if you don't have another spoonful ready to go!

Rj loves sweetpotatoes pears and apple sauce. He has a habit of grabbing whats in front of him or putting his hands in food so I'm sure he got a taste of his fathers steak sauce one day lol
