Wasn't sure where to post this, but at my doctor's appointment today I asked about the NT scan (since she didn't mention it) mainly b/c I was hoping to get the extra ultrasound.

Wow, that is so weird. It is your right to have one. I say if you really want one, demand it. It's your right!!

Mine was offered neutrally to be declined or accepted. They gave me the info, told me what it was for and told me to sign if I wanted it, or if I didn't want it.

I don't know how I would feel if my doctor had made the comment yours did. It doesn't seem to be very professional.

It seems like a surprising stance for a dr anyways because aside from the abortion issue, there are medical reasons to find out ahead of time if there is a problem. If nothing else it allows for medical professionals to come up with a plan of treatment instead of working on the fly.

I haven't had one with any of my pregnancies because they have always chosen to do the blood work. What different doctors have told me is that the NT scan is for higher risk pregnancies.

its elective but most insurances cover it...they should offer it. Kinda lousy for them to say that way though. I didn't have it with my DS b/c i felt there was no point either, but this time i just wanted the u/s!

That is kinda weird that your Dr. discouraged you from getting it.

Mine was offered to me...they weren't pro or against. That seems so unprofessional to say it like that to you.

I didn't get one either. I don't go for testing either, but also don't remember it being offered, could've been in paperwork? I know they do a lot in the bloodwork, maybe since it was all fine they didn't? Who knows....I would'nt have minded an extra ultrasound either, lol!

NT scans aren't offered in BC to any mums who aren't high risk.

Mine wasn't offered, I had to ask. But they simply scheduled it, I said no I wouldn't abort, but it would be a good thing to be prepared about, KWIM.
