Please Pray For Adelaide...

I feel like I'm living in a horrible nightmare that I can't wake up from... Last night Adelaide and I fell asleep in the living room in one of the recliners, she was kind of across my legs with her head on my arm. Well I suddenly woke up for unknown reason (because I was still dead exhausted) and realized that her color was off. She was a bit white (loss of color) and very cool to the touch even though she had a blanket on her. I sat up and it moved her blanket a bit. I then realized (by watching her stomach) that her breathing was off. She would take 2 hard and deep breaths and then noting for a long period in between, than another 2 hard deep breaths. She did this a couple of times, I was a bit worried watching but thought maybe she was just sleeping deep UNTIL she stopped breathing all together and went completely limp. I jumped up with her, started screaming her name over and over and over and vigorously rubbing/shaking her body to try to get her to respond. She was totally limp, it was like holding a doll or something :'( . She FINALLY after about 45 secs tensed up and took a breath and woke up. She was doing fine after that but we rushed her to the ER.

They said babies will do this when they have an infection OR have an impending infection. They tested her urine, blood, did x-rays of her chest and did a spinal tap. Then admitted us for 48 hours to wait for all the results to come back and to start aggressively treating her with antis. So they get us up to our room and the nurse checks the computer to see if any of her labs have come in and sure enough they are. She said everything looked good except there is something going on in her spinal fluid and then wouldn't say anything else other than the Dr will talk to you about it in the morning.

Dr comes in this morning and instantly is saying "It's looking like meningitis from the lab results"... I didn't like him much, I had lots of questions I needed answered and he just kept standing in the door way trying to leave as I'm asking them, like I was stalling him or something and then said "We'll talk later on..." ummm ok. The nurse comes in and said if there was blood in the fluid collected than it will tamper the lab results. There was DEFINITELY blood in the fluid, I seen it so that gives me hope.

Now all day I have had another Dr (which I LOVE her, she is very sweet and makes sure if I have any questions before she leaves that she answers them for me) in and out of our room that is saying there is definitely blood in the fluid they just don't know if its blood in her actual spinal fluid or the blood got in there from her being poked and that as she looks now, she is not looking sick at all. Showing no signs what so ever, but we wont know for sure until the cultures come in which will be in the middle of the night on wed/thurs early morn. The last time she was in here (she keeps coming in with LOADS of questions about the events leading up to, our home, us, family history... everything) she said that they think they have all the answers they needed from me and that the team of Drs were going to sit and discuss Addie and then they would be back in to talk to me about what they think is going on. I'm waiting (not so patiently), hoping they come in with some good news. This has been a NIGHTMARE and watching my baby go through all this breaks my heart into a million pieces. :'( I'm just ready to take her home, but obviously I want to make sure she is healthy first. That is number 1 top priority. Please pray for our precious baby girl.

Thinking of you and Adelaide and sending prayers your way. We had a scare with our daughter when she was 10 days old, and I have never been so petrified in my life. Hoping everything turns out to be fine with your daughter.

I am so so sorry you're going through this. I can't even begin to imagine how scared you must be. Addie will be in my prayers. Have they given you a diagnosis yet?

Thank you all!! We are still here, Adelaide is doing GREAT!!! She hasn't developed ANY signs of infection and so far all cultures are NEGATIVE!!! Right now we have 3 hours to get to the 48 hour period and that will be the final yes or no. I highly doubt the negative results will turn positive this short amount of time left. That means we will be going home tomorrow morning!! I can't wait but in the same breath I am SCARED TO DEATH to say the least. She has no infection so what caused her to stop breathing?!?!?! SIDS?? Sleep Apena??? Could it happen again??? What if it does and we're asleep??? I am a ball of nerves. My mom keeps trying to get me to ask the Dr about proscribing a home monitor but I don't know if they do that and I am nervous to ask... Weird I know. I have been looking at the angelcare monitors. That might be the option we take at this point. Either way, right now things are going good and its looking like we will be going home tomorrow. Thank god!!!
