What have you heard about eating sushi and breastfeeding? I was doing some research and stumbled across answers from pediatricians that said it was okay as long as I was aware of certain risks- you can check out their answer here if you're curious. I'm gunna say yes..I can't stay away! Have you heard differently?

Do you are willing to take the risks to eat sushi? Really? I'm all for nursing my kids nurse 2 years but if you can't control not putting foods in your mouth that are a danger to your child you probably should reconsider.

1/3of the mercury in a mother will pass into the breast milk
Why risk your child's health? And the it's just here and there thing doesn't work for me despite milk and gluten intolerance I nursed lily 2 years I just had to be careful of what I put in my mouth.

Chelle, That is why I said "aside from the mercury" - If there is mercury in the fish, it will not matter if it is cooked or raw.

I agree River, It sounds like there were a lot of food sensitivities that you had to account for.Chelle, I personally would not breastfeed in the situation you described. kudo's to you for doing so , what commitment, but we have to be careful to not judge others for doing things differently than us. I did not read that original poster was planning on eating sushi morning , noon and night, just asking if she had to avoid it completely. My doctor allows for eating of potentially mercury containing food up to once a week during pregnancy....... I certainly think that mercury while not great to eat by the gallons can be tolerated in small amounts while breast feeding. also if its a concern one can always supplement for a feeding or two after.
