Big Babies?

I've never made it to my due date. My doctor always wants to induce by 38 weeks because of the size of my babies. I have a small frame and my babies tend to be big. My youngest was already 7lbs 14oz at 37 weeks. If baby really does gain a pound a week at the end... Does that mean he would have been almost 11 pounds?? Yikes!!

But this time... I might want to let my body go into labor on its own. I'll have to argue with my doctor about this. He's already told me we'll probably induce at 37 or 38 weeks like all my others. My question is... have you ever delivered a big baby with a small frame?? I was told baby could get stuck!

well i am not small (5' 4") but not petite (14,16 size right now and medium to big bone structure). i was a 9 pound baby. My mother is 5'1" and petite and had all good size babies with no problem in labor (fast and without meds last 2). Me, like i said, not big, but it has more to do with pelvic bone size correct? my daughter was 7 lbs 9 oz at 40 weeks (went in labor right on due date) but it was very difficult for me to deliver her without pitocin, epidural, 2nd degree episiotomy and vacuum extraction after 2 and 1/2 hours pushing (after 12 hours labor). so i don't think its your size

b/t/w i would be happy to be induced early this time since i went the full 40 weeks and had a hard time with it (and like i said i am not petite at all). letting my body do it on my own didn't help because i went to 4cm and stopped progressing so they kind of induced me in a way by using the pitocin etc.. i would rather be induced early then have to have a C-section. I really don't want that and i hope i don't have to have a large episiotomy this time. it took 5 months to feel normal again down there. UGH

Your birth experience sounds a lot like my first but we didn't use a vacuum. 12 hours of labor plus an hour and 45 minutes of pushing and I still had to be cut and the doctor had to do a lot of wiggling to get my 8lb 8oz boy out (38 weeks). I'm definitely terrified of the idea of an emergency c-section if I go to my due date and baby is too big. But, I hate pitocin. Is it just me or does it make everything hurt more? Ow!

I am a fairly small woman, and coming from a line of small woman.

I'm 5'4 and usually weigh around 130 to 140 (not right now haha)

I had the biggest baby in our family and it was my first baby so I wasn't prepared!

Liz, yes we did have similar labors. Yes its a fact that pitocin makes things go faster and hurt way more (most people who get pitocin get an epidural or some pain med). if you ever watch baby story, the drs say that. (lol). I should be 130-140 pounds and I am 5 ' 4" so 9 lbs to me is big but like i said my mom had me (9), sister (8 lbs 6 oz) and brother (1st - was 7.6) and she had no trouble and labors were like an hour and a half!! she was at my labor and was tired just watching hahaaha my pregnancies and my labor was so different from my mom in every way. no heredity in those areas for us!!

My son was born at 40 weeks weighing 10.3. We also had second degree tear and vacuum. I'm not a small a girl but not big either. I'm 5'9 weigh 155 and 8-10 jeans. I'm being induced early with this next one since big babies run on dh side. DH was 10.1 as a baby and his younger brother (same age distance mine will be) was 12.14! So I'd like to avoid that at all costs!

My first I went into labor on my own late in week 37 ,my water broke at home on it's own , cause he was my first they thought labor would take awhile , he came 7 hours and 13 minutes later , I pushed for about 20 minutes and they noticed the cord around his head so they used a vaccuum to help pull him out , he was 8lbs 10 oz

When I saw your post I debated over whether to tell my story or not because I dont want to scare anyone but I feel I must say this. I have 5 babies, my first was 9.9lbs my second 10.10, my 3rd and 4th were both 10lbs even. I had them all vaginally and had no problems except for some excess bleeding with my 3rd. I was induced with all but my first at 38 weeks and had no qualms about it or issues at all. When I was 38 weeks with my last one they scheduled a c-section because he was breech . I was terrified, I did not want to be cut! When I got the hospital they did a quick ultrasound and he had turned. The dr wanted to send me home but I convinced him to try to induce since the baby was big. Now in my heart I knew I could deliver a bigger baby and the truth is I had planned on having the baby that day and I wasnt leaving the hospital without him. I assumed that he was 38 weeks and he was big and he was ready. I was wrong. The induction worked and late that night I delivered what looked
