I know you really aren't supposed to try any of the techniques or remedies to induce labor yourself until you are overdue....

None of the home inducing stuff will work unless your body is ready to go anyway, so I don't see any harm in trying it. I wouldn't try castor oil though! I used accupressure last time, the part of skin between the thumb and first finger. It worked right away when I wanted it to, so I know my body was definitely ready to go! :)

The herbs are probably your best best for inducing labor ... spicy food (not really unless maybe you never eat spicy food).

But accupressure / accupuncture is actually very effective. So if you reach a point that people are talking induction, you might find a good accupressure specialist in you area.

When I was having a really slow labor, the hospital had me bounce on a birthing ball. I think it was supposed to encourage the baby to come down more. It didn't work for me but nothing was really working during my first labor.

My MIL thinks she induces my labors. For the first and second pregnancy, I went into labor right after she left, like hours. For the last pregnancy, she wouldn't visit for the last two months of my pregnancy. We are inviting her over for 4th of July. I don't know if she will come.

supposedly nursing can induce labor if you are close enough... it did not seem to work for me though... caused contractions during nursing (which might be why people associate it) but contractions don't always go anywhere... *smirk*

I would consider sex, especially since after birth it is going to be a long dry spell, but again I don't know how effective that really is...

I agree. Nipple stimulation does work. I done it with my 3rd baby. it causes your body to release oxytocin, in turn inducing labor
