HCG levels at 6 weeks

I had my blood drawn yesterday at 6 weeks 2 days. My HCG was 39,161 ... does that sound high to anyone else? I'm almost 100% POSITIVE about my dates. In fact, I originally thought I wasn't as far along as I seem to be, which would make it even bigger of a number. I read that it doubles every 72 hours at this point which would put it at around 78,322-ish at 6 weeks 5 days. From what I read, that's off the charts for six weeks (should be 1,080-56,500). The thought of twins have run past my mind, but I really don't know. Has anyone had their HCG taken around this time? What was your result?

My HCG ay 6w 2d was 15,178 and the nurse kept saying that that was really high and she couldn't believe there was only 1 in there. There is only 1 though. So yes, yours does seem pretty high. Might very well be 2 in there. :)

WOW. That would be a little bit CRAZY seeing as my youngest will only be 15 months old! Huh. Twins would be welcome ... but WOW. My next appointment isn't until 2 1/2 weeks from now. I guess I'll just have to wait it out.

I had mine done at 6w2d as well and it was 46,770. The doubling time slows down as the number gets higher and hCG really isn't a good determination of how far along you really are because there is such a wide range and the ranges vary from place to place.

Yep - I'll just have to wait for an ultrasound. She wants to do one, anyhow, because I'm always irregular. (Well, it's regular - every 40 days - just not everyone else's idea of regular.) I really don't think it's twins ... but an ultrasound to confirm the due date (and whether there is more than one) would bring me a little peace of mind. :)

Well, my doctor is using my LMP date for the due date, but I know that I'm not that far along. She thinks I'm two weeks further than I know that I am. I'm "irregular" ... but every 40-42 days, so regular for me if that makes sense. She'll have one done in about 3 weeks, so I guess I just wait. I'm sorry to hear about your identical twins. Is it still to early to detect a heartbeat? Maybe there's still good news on the horizon - although one baby is still a wonderful blessing! ((hugs))

The doc said a hb normally shows up at 6 weeks and they were measuring 6w4d. I have an u/s next Tuesday so I'll find out what is going on, hopefully.

I'm wondering if that's why I always get morning sickness with each of my pregnancies. Maybe I just always have a really high hcg level. I really think it's only one baby, but I should find out for sure in a couple weeks.
