So we introduced solids 3 weeks ago and have been doing a 4 day wait in between introducing new items to check for allergies.

When it's a food you've already tried you don't need to do the 3-4 day wait thing.

I've also been wondering if some of this waiting to rule out allergy thing is even necessary for the breast fed babies. Aren't they already receiving those proteins through our milk already? Like I can't have dairy or chocolate right now because it bothers Jenna so much. So if it's an item that's already in my diet, hasn't she already been exposed???

Donna, you're right that the babies are exposed to foods through our milk, but they can still show an allergy to the actual food itself. If it is a mild allergy, the baby might not show a reaction to the milk alone.

newleywed, we gradually dropped the 4-day-wait around 12-18 months. By then, the boys were eating so many things that it was hard to keep track. I still did a little wait after adding potential allergens like seafood (after age 2) and chocolate.

Thanks Erica. I still do the 3-5 days of a new food before moving on, but always just wondered why BF babies needed to do it.

You can use a food she's already tried at anytime after the initial trial period. So if she's already had peas with no issue you can give her those at anytime after that, even in conjunction with a new food. And you can start to blend together foods that she's already had as well - like a veggie medley.
