Is it necessary to use baby-specific detergent? Do you have a preference on brand? If you have used baby detergent, how long have you stuck with it before using "regular"?

I never used baby detergent...I buy free and clear detergents for me anyway because I'm allergic to brands like Tide, but I always washed the baby's clothes in our detergent and none of them ever had an issue.

With both my boys I used Dreft or the Target version of it for the first year and a half or so.

I also used dreft or the target brand for my son since he had eczema. I used it probably for the first year and then switched him to our detergent (Tide). I do know that a lot of people do use regular detergent or just the scent free stuff. I guess my advice would be to pick up a small container of dreft or something similar and use it to wash any of the clothes before babies are born. Then when they are born, you will know better if they have sensitive skin or not.

I never used it with my other two, so I'm not sure if I'm going to give it a try.

I used ALL Baby and Dreft both times with my babies, and switched after like 6 months or so.. .but even then, I use a free and clear kind.

I have never used it at all. We use All Free Clear for everything, and it works great. Plus it's a lot cheaper than Tide Free. My DH and both kids have very sensitive skin, and we've never had a problem with All Free Clear, and I also use the free & clear Downy fabric softener with no problems.

I have NEVER used it. Actually I also didn't wash the baby clothes before I used them either.

We use Dreft at home for mackenzie as she has sensitive skin. I'll probably keep using it on her clothes until this baby is 1. No need to switch her clothes to regular when I can throw both girl's clothes in together.

Just a reminder for those of you who don't know, never use fabric softener on baby clothes. It eats away the fire retardants (sp?) on the clothes causing them to be flammable.
