When You go to the Doctors how often do you get an internal exam? Like a check of the cervix? I only had one at the beginning of my pregnancy, the very first appointment. Is that normal?

I had one at the beginning of the pregnancy (I was about 9 weeks), but I was due for an annual, which called for the internal and the pap.

This is my 3rd and my docs don't give you internals until the very end to check your cervix.

I had one at the beginning but I don't think they ever checked my cervix until I got into the 3rd trimester...I wanna say around 30-32 weeks is when they started checking with my last 3 pregnancies.

Yes it's normal. My doctor checked everything out in the beginning and then won't check again until 36-37 weeks. She says it's best not to stir things up down there. Checking your cervix can actually kick-start contractions (I know this from personal exp with preterm labor).

I think it depends on the doctor. My OBGYN that delivered my DD did Internals every appointment. I thought it was weird, but got used to it. He was a good doctor, he never made me feel uncomfortable.

None here yet, either; although I will be having cervical checks every 2 weeks beginning next week. Mine are because I'm carrying 3, but it sounds like it's normal to not have them. If you want one you can request it.

Ok Thanks I wasn't sure. My last pregnancy was over 8 years ago and I couldn't remember. I tried to look it up in what to expect when your expecting but I couldn't find it. I feel better. I was thinking maybe my dr. was being lazy.

haha I think some ARE lazy! But you'll also find docs with different philosophies so it doesn't hurt to ask. I'm glad you're feeling better. :-)

Other than the first visit many doctors don't like to do one until close to the end to check for progress or if you are having any problems along the way.

I have the same reply as everyone else. I had an internal at my first appointment and my doctor will not be doing it again until the end of the pragnancy (as per my first pregnancy).
