The fourth trimester is a time for mama to heal and for a newly expanded family to get to know one another.

I loved this article - thanks for posting! We talked a lot about the 'fourth trimester' during the natural childbirth class I took while I was pg with DD. It really helped me, particularly in terms of my expectations of what life with a newborn would be like. If you think about it, this tiny little baby is suddenly moved from an environment of calm and darkness where they don't ever feel hunger or anything but perfectly, comfortably warm to a bright, loud, confusing world. It's a huge period of adjustment for baby as well as Mom!

We will be doing pretty much everything the article suggests - because that suits our childrearing style and feels natural for us. I am a firm believer in routines for babies BUT only once the baby reaches 3 months or so. And even then I think that they should follow the natural patterns of the baby/child rather than simply being imposed by the parent.

Again, thanks for posting!
