Membrane Stripping?
Wed, 08-17-2011 - 1:51pm

How early is too early to start talking about membrane stripping with the doc? I have an appointment tomorrow and will be 38 weeks on Saturday. Is tomorrow too early, or should I hold off another week or two? I'm getting impatient.

I know about 20 women that have had this done myself included and it led only slightly increases your chances at jumpstarting labor or breaking your water..Go ahead and have the doc do it if theyre willing but don't bank on it..

Discuss it with your doc and see what they say - some have a policy of when they will/will not do it. My M/W won't strip my membranes until I'm overdue but yours may well do it earlier. In terms of 'induction' methods, it's fairly gentle as 1) If your cervix is still high and closed, your OB won't be able to physically perform the procedure and 2)

I may have that done on Tuesday.

I hear it is better than being induced later, which I am trying to avoid.

Unfortunately, my doctor didn't really want to talk about it at the last appointment. She was general about what it was, but wouldn't discuss it in relation to my pregnancy. Apparently it wasn't the "right time" yet. Hmph.

Did she tell you WHEN the "right time" was??
I'm pretty sure mine were stripped at 38, 39 and 40 weeks last time!!!
