adopting a siblings child?
Tue, 09-11-2012 - 11:04am

Does anybody have any experience adopting a siblings child.  Short of the story, my son and daughter-in-law want children but she has health issues that prevent pragnancy.  My duaghter just found out she is expecting and feels she is not ready to have  children and it looks like she would be alone in this.  Needless to say, the possiblilty of having my son and DIL adopt the child has come up.  BUT both parties are worried about the others feeling.  Son and DIL worried about DD watching her child raised by others and DD worried that he brother and sister in law might feel wrong raising her child.

Any experience anbody has with this would be helpfull.

Sibling adoptions can definitely be done. I would suggest your daughter get in touch with an adoption counselor who would probably be her best bet on getting advice about this situation. Have your son and daughter sat down together to talk about this at all?

I don't have any experience on this but I would recommend that your daughter talk to an adoption counselor about her possible desire to place the baby for adoption.  They can also work with her about how she would feel having her brother and SIL adopt the baby and if it would be in her best interest.  They could also possibly do some joint sessions to see if it would be a feasable option to have the adoption take place in family or if it would make things to difficult on all/any of them.

I can only imagine the complications taht can come from this set up but also the possibility for joy on everyones part.  I know that there are a lot of grandparent adoptions out there that work and are under simular premisis.

Good luck to both your daughter and son as they work through what is best for your family and this unborn child.
