Well ... we didn't do anything like this for our adoptions, but I LOVE the idea!

Congratulations! We are having our 1st Famiversary in September and I have a big bash planned. Our friend, Alissa who owns www.bubblegumandlemondrops.com designed us invitations with a family tree and they are fabulous! You can feel free to email her or check her website!

We're doing a BBQ dinner, cake, watching a video of our family's first year and thanking our friends and family who have helped us along the way. We're also inviting some adoptive families we know.

Have a fun party!

We had a party with family and close friends and I think (if I remember) our cake just said "Congratulations!" Some people brought gifts and cards, but I didn't expect that, it kind of surprised me. But it was pretty much like our family birthday parties! Lots of food, fun and family!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

What exciting news, and I love the idea of having a party to celebrate!! I really have no idea since i'm not there yet, but giving it some thought I think I might go the route of something like an open house. I think it would be nice to have someone (a friend) be the appointed photographer to take pictures of people who came, and perhaps put them in a scrapbook with those guests words of welcome to the child/children (they could write it and we'd add their pictures later). I think it would make a nice keepsake. Any pictures taken would also make a nice memory of the day we celebrated their "official" arrival into a forever family.
I'm not sure what we'd put on the cake...maybe God Bless this Family? (If you are not really religious that wouldn't work at all. I DO like Celebrate though!!).
I've heard of people allowing for gifts because if you were having a baby, there would be a baby shower no doubt? How about something for the boys for their new forever rooms? I wouldn't think it would be tacky.
As for a theme? Hmmm not sure? You could play on a theme of a plant (sweatpeas?) or a tree as your family/family tree is growing. Each guest could get a little pouch of seeds with a tag that said something to the effect of "Thank you for sharing this special day with us. We are excited to see our "sweet pea(s)" grow! Thank you for nourishing us with the "seeds" of your friendship." or whatever...!!

Thank you for all the good ideas. I was at a loss, due to this being our first and probably only adoption. We don't expect gifts either, I guess if ppl want to bring them for the boys they can. Their little brother ( I had him in April) won't know they aren't for him!
