Russia's parliament approved a bill to ban Americans from adopting Russian orphans.  The bill still needs to pass its final reading on Friday and requires Putin's signature in order to become law.  It's possible he may not sign off on it since the Kremlin has distanced itself from this bill.

Protesters outside the Duma argue that this law deprives children of the possibility of growing up in families of loving parents.

Wow, this is so disappointing to me!! My first reaction was why?!?! The only reason I could see given was "Nationalist politicians have long viewed foreign adoptions of Russian children as an embarrassment that implies Russia cannot care for its own,".  So pride is the reason?!?!? Meanwhile these children go without homes.

Grrr...my disappointed anger is slowly turning to anger.

This is a sad state of affairs.  Just because the parents are Americans?

There are so many parents who want kids in the US and so many kids in Russia that need parents.  It is/was a win win situation.

"There are so many parents who want kids in the US..."

I'm sure I'll get flogged for this, but here goes......maybe those people could actually adopt some US kids.   They need homes just as badly as the kids in Russia do.   I am by no means saying that Russian children are not as important, but our kids are here and waiting, too.
