I'm not really sure where to post this, sorry if this is in the wrong place! I'm currently pg with #4, not nursing atm. I know my colostrum has come in already. I had to take antibiotics earlier for an ear infection, got a horrible vaginal yeast infection as a result, and I'm wondering if it's possible to also get thrush even though I'm not nursing. I've had it before, and my bbs have been itchy on the inside, and my nipples especially itch and burn, just like when I had thrush. Is it possible, and is there any safe treatment during pg??

Jodi, thanks for stopping by. We don't see breast thrush a ton outside of nursing but I suppose it's possible!!

Did you take probiotics/acidophilus while taking the antibiotics and is that an option now? That's definitely safe during pregnancy and a good first step. I will admit knowing what's safe during pregnancy is probably not my strong suit. I would suggest checking in with your doctor to see if you can use some OTC Monistat or Lotrimin on your nipples too as an antifungal. Those are probably two good first steps and if those don't work, we can think about other things. Does that help?

I have worked with some moms who have breast/nipple yeast during pregnancy. Talk to your OB doctor. There may be a topical medicated cream you can begin to use.

I agree if you are especially vulnerable to continue taking some probiotics through the pregnancy and after.

Hope you feel better soon.
