Breastfeeding and coffee

Hello everybody,
I'm new here. I have a four month old baby boy he has been on breastmilk exclusively until 2 weeks ago when I started supplimenting with formula two days a week (he goes to the daycare on those two days and I don't have time to pump anymore).
My question is about caffeine and babies. How much coffee is ok and how much is dangerous. I'm planning to take a very important exam before the semester is over so I need to stay up at night and wake up early and so far without coffee it has been a big struggle. The internet has very contradicting information. Some say one cup is ok, some say up to two is ok. Others say none at all since the caffeine will accumulate in the baby's blood and make him fussy and so on. So how much is safe? How long should I wait before I nurse after I have a cup of coffee? So far, I have been having my cup of coffee right after I nurse him (7 or 8pm) as he sleeps until 12 or 1:00 after that, before waking up for a night feeding. I can't tell if it bothers him or not because sometimes he would stay awake for a little before he falls asleep again and sometimes he falls asleep right away so I haven't been able to observe a pattern.
Let me know what you all think.

Welcome to the board and thanks for stopping by!
Most sources agree that caffeine is fine in moderation for most breastfeeding moms. There are a smaller percentage of babies that are sensitive to mom's caffeine intake but most moms can consume 2 or so cups of coffee just fine without any effect on baby. Here's a good link that explains it well: http://kellymom.com/bf/can-i-breastfeed/lifestyle/caffeine/
I hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks a lot Dana. It definitely helps and it makes me feel better about the cup of coffee I have whenever I need to study :)
Sweden runs on coffee and here they say that 3 cups is oki, only at 6-8 cups the kids start to get hyper and fussy.
How ever Swedish coffee is strong and to get standard American coffee, my American friends drinks thiers half water/ half coffee.. So I dont think your child will have a problem.
