I've been reading these boards since my first daughter (Carly)

This is an excellent question. In general, I'd recommend nursing at least 5 or 6 times a day at this age. However, if you're offering and she's refusing, what can you do? If weight gain and diaper output are on track, that's the most important thing and it sounds like they are. Try to offer more here and there if you can but if she won't nurse more often, you may be one of those lucky ones with a larger storage capacity and baby takes enough per session that 4 times a day is enough.

I agree with Dana, it’s a bit unusual but just remain flexible and if she wants to bf more often at some point of course go with it. It doesn’t sound like you are giving too much solid food.

Thank you very much for your replies and advice. She has never taken a paci and doesn't suck her thumb. My first was a very big comfort nurser so when I had Ella I was ready to set up camp on my couch and nurse 24/7. For the most part though, she has been all business about nursing, getting what she needs and moving on to other things!

She is back to nursing once a night (I knew sleeping through the night was too good to be true!) and I've been able to sneak in a few more nursing sessions during the day. Shell usually just stay on for one let down, but at least I'm getting a little more milk into her.

Thank you again for the reassurance and guidance! Although I haven't posted before, this message board has been an invaluable resource when it came to any questions I've had along the way!
