Hi, Tracey and welcome to the board. I'm Kathy the board LC.

Anytime you give the baby any food other than breastfeeding or breast milk your supply will lower to the degree that your baby is getting calories from other sources. This includes the formula and any solids. There is really no way around it.

However,it's appropriate for you to begin solids now and

Kathy, I learned something new with the ~1 oz per hour thing. Thanks! When Kenna started daycare, I just took a shot in the dark the first few days.

With the new law, I'd be interested in any practical tips for having that discussion with an employer, from a real nuts and bolts perspective.

Yes I think that with formula you'd give that first at least in the beginning up to one year of age BUT, since I"m not an expert on formula I'd recommend consulting with the pediatrician.

You have been given great advice about letting daycare give the solids, and continuing to just BF while at home with baby yourself. I found that a really successful way to go. I also nursed lots on weekends, during the day, when I would be at work on other days. This always gave my supply a boost each week, as I could not pump enough either.
