As long as the poop is soft even a playdoh consistency that is fine.

The diaper after that was wet, not soaked. He is getting 6-7 bites of veggies and 6-7 bites of fruit twice a day. Sometimes he has bites of the food we are eating like bread or fruit but that is irregular. He nurses 3x before morning nap the about 5 other times. He does sleep through the night on a consistent bases....which I am ever so thankful for!!! I just kind of feel like I still have an infant on my hand. I have a friend who has a baby the same age and my LO and he nurses before naps and bed which made me a little jealous lol.
But now that I think about it, I think you maybe right about him holding it because I have noticed that he will be dry and then soaked pretty quickly. His poo this morning was still dark and formed but not hard.

You do have an infant, that is why you feel like you have one. :) It is really hard to "compare" you baby to another baby as a lot comes into play there, including parenting styles, baby's temperment, how many solids etc etc. THat said most 8 month olds do still nurse frequently - every 2-3 hours is normal, unless mom is working on weaning (even subconciously by delaying nursing as often).

Also there is no reason at this age you can't just let baby have whatever you and DH are eating (meat veggies fruits etc). Put a little on his tray/plate and let him choose what he wants to eat - overfeeding is less likely in this manner, Just remember at this age 2 times a day is the max.

Another thought is that babies will nurse more frequently when fighting off infections. My 2 year old is still nursing. Sometimes it is just before nap and bedtime (and throughout the night - no he does not sleep through the night, but then neither does the 5 year old and he has not BF for about 18 months. lol Guess we are just a houseful of wakeful people) and when he get hurt etc, but a couple weeks ago it was often THEN he got the same cold his brother's did - but it was not as severe, thanks to BF. Once the cold was over he was back to "himself".

Carol gave you some fantastic information. Just to confirm, that other baby is only nursing 3 times a day at 8 months old? IMO, that's just not enough. Breastmilk (or formula) needs to be the primary source of nutrition until the 12 month mark and I'm not sure only nursing an infant 3 times a day gets you to that point. You're doing a fantastic job, mama!

The OP can correct me if I'm wrong but I read "He nurses 3x before morning nap the about 5 other times." as "nurses 3 times before his morning nap and 5 times during the rest of the day.".

Charleen, I thought she was saying HER baby nursed at least 8 times a day still but her friend's baby nursed only 3 times a day. What I was trying to emphasize is that 3 times a day just isn't enough for anyone. I'm 39 and I drink way more than 3 times a day!

Yep my LO certainly nurses more than 3x a day. He sleeps 12 hours at night so he nurses A LOT in the morning
