Hello all,

So, I have to go out of town on May 15th- May 25th for work and I can't bring my 6 month old EBF baby.

Oh Sonia, that must be such stressful news for you to deal with. Just to throw it out there, is there any way that baby might be able to travel with you with grandma or caregiver along on the trip?

How often you'll need to pump of course depends on how much milk you already have saved up and how well you respond to the pump.

I understand your concern about exascerbating your oversupply. However, keep in mind that the pump doesn't stimulate your supply as well as the baby. So while you're away there is a distinct possibility that your supply may drop just from exclusively pumping. So while I away it's a viable concern, it's really only a big concern for the next two weeks while you're trying to store up extra. Does that help?

Many hotels will give you a portable fridge for your room if you tell them it's for a medical issue. Many have them on hand for situations like diabetics that need to store insulin. That's definitely worth calling to ask.

I might recommend thinking about freezing your milk and shipping it home since 10 days worth will be quite a bit of milk. You'll have to freeze at least some of it regardless because milk typically keeps fresh about 8 days. Here's some good information on shipping frozen breastmilk: http://www.mother-2-mother.com/bfandtraveling.htm#shipping

I hope that helps. Please let us know what other questions you might have. Good luck!

Given the short time you have to pump, I would pump as much as I could as soon as I could.

Yep, I"d definitely say pump as much as possible for now. And yes, definitely agree with Teresa's idea too.
