Mastitis symptom free?

Is it possible to have mastits with no symptoms other than a tender (not painful), red, full breast? I also feel a thick knot a thick knot in the breast.

Background:

I've had a what I think is a reluctant plug for 2 weeks. There is a red spot that I guess is warm, not hot, and that spot is tender when touched, yet painful when massaged, I feel no pain if not messed with. I've tried all the tricks, cold/hot compress with massage, hot water with massage, cabbage, sage, potato, and I've been taking (4) lecithin regularly for while.

I'm thinking if you had mastitis you would have a fever and the flu-like symptoms so I'm thinking what you're dealing with is likely just the mother of all plugs. You're already doing all the stuff we'd typically suggest. Since this has been an issue for 2 weeks, you may want to consider seeing an LC to see if she has any additional thoughts. Good luck!

When I first noticed the red spot I had chills (2 weeks ago). I didn't take my temperature but my body felt achy and I went to bed and fell better in the morning. I haven't felt that way since.

Glad to hear that you think it's just the mother of all plugs. I can get my DD to empty but it won't budge!! I want to cry!

Oh and I've talked to one of our local LLL-leaders who's studying to be a LC and she says to keep working on it and if it doesn't go away (didn't give me a specific time) to go see a doctor because it could develop into an abscess, which is freaking me out :(

Well a quick update:

I went to the doctor and he said it's not an abscess yet and prescribed me an antibiotic that I started yesterday. I still have the plug and it's very painful now, but I think that's from all the massaging I was doing yesterday.

Please go to your doctor at once. I just got home from the hospital this morning, having had surgery under general anaesthetic yesterday to clear out a breast abscess. I thought it was just a plugged duct as I felt perfectly, 100% healthy, just with a big lump and some redness.

How are you feeling recently? Has the plug resolved by this point? If you're taking antibiotics, it's important that you also take some probiotics/acidophilus just to reduce the risk of thrush. Let us know how things are going for you?
