Hi Ladies.

My dd is about to turn 6 months old and we've been BFing with little to no problems.

Kelly mom has this to say on these types of medications

http://www.kellymom.com/health/meds/cold-remedy.html

You will see that Claratin contains pseudoephidrine which has the potential to cause milk supply to drop. There are plenty of other choices of medication listed that do not do this, so if you need something, I would immediately change to something that will be safe.

As for your supply, take a few days or up to a week to nurse more often. If he usually nurses every two and a half hours, offer every two hours, and so on. Offer to nurse more often than he usually would do so.

I agree that pseudophedrine can lower supply but if you allow the baby to breastfeed more frequently it should improve. To help you with your let down try what is suggested here:

Also, remember the best way to judge supply is via the baby's diapers if the baby is exclusively breastfeeding he should have at least 5-6 wets and his normal poopy count.

Hope this helps
