Sore nipples but no AF

I have had a couple of very irregular AFs since the birth and both times were preceded by moderately sore nipples for a couple of days. Now I had the same nipple pain, but no AF. What's going on? I doubt it's thrush, DD shows no sign and it went away on its own. I highly highly doubt I'm pregnant. DH and I are very careful and the way things have been lately it would practically be an immaculate conception lol. Also DD has been behaving fairly well, no pulling or biting lately.
Any thoughts?

Some moms are sensitive to the changes in the baby's saliva that can occur with teething. Also

Thank you shijin for the reply and Kathy for the advice. The soreness passed on its own after a couple of days just like it did with AF before. That's why I thought it was weird. It felt like AF was coming again, but it never did. Do some women have irregular periods once they return? I had a small spotting around 4.5 months then a real period around 6 months and again at 8.5 months. Now we are close to 10 months and nothing. Before getting pregnant I was very regular. Is this just the hormones and BFing interfering with the rhythm?
I'll remember the rinsing for the future. DD has been teething on and off since 4 months (working on number six at the moment) and it hasn't bothered me. The same goes for her eating solids since 6 months but we've been "brushing her teeth" after most meals so I guess she didn't transfer much food on to me.

Yes, many moms find that their cycles are a bit irregular when they come back while breastfeeding.
