Suddenly Biting Me!

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone had any insight to share. My DD is 9.5 months old and we have had no problems bfing all along, until now! For the last 3 days, when she goes to latch, instead of latching, she bites me. I've read about babies biting at the end of a feed to signal that they are full but she doesn't even get any milk at all before she chomps down. I've been pumping but I don't think she gets nearly as much as when she nurses and it feels like my supply is going down.

Could it be related to teething? Have you tried giving a pain reliever a little bit before the nursing session?

I know after ds brought in both his bottom and then his top teet his latch changed, especially once he got his top teeth in... it took a couple of days of him trying to figure out how to latch with his new teeth and he would inadvertently bite or scrape my aerola... I try not to react when this happens, except maybe say don't forget to open wide bub.

I have wondered if it could be teething. She already has her two bottom teeth and they came in months ago with no problem. It does look as though there could be the two teeth coming up right next to the existing ones. I might try the pain reliever to see what happens, thanks!

So hard not to react, isn't it? :) Especially the first couple of times, it was such a shock! I'm not sure its a latch problem, she really makes a deliberate move to bite down and she kind of looks at me while she does it. I

I've found that putting the bbs away after a bite has worked best for me... Jacob thinks it a game when I pull him in close to get him to unlatch...so I just breath, pop a finger in and un latch him then put him down on the floor and do something else.... I've done that 2x and since the 2nd time he hasn't bitten on purpose... he doesn't like having his bbs taken away from him...
