Need kid-friendly vacation ideas...

(I'm cross-posting this a few places)

So, there's a family that I grew up with. We used to do everything together, but they've (all) moved away about 7 hours from us. We would all get together for a vacation (baseball game, horsetrack, etc) every summer, but haven't the last few years. We're hoping for all of us to do it again this summer...probably down in Minneapolis as it's pretty central.

The 'parents' of this family have two children...with two kids each. I have Hannah and Sephrya. My sister's son is a month younger than Sephrya. We'd like to get everyone together, but the thought of 7 kids under the age of 5 in one place makes me want to drink a lot of alcohol (not condusive to watching children).

Things we've done in the past that I don't think will work are things like State Fair, Renissance Festival, Twins baseball games, horse races, amusement parks. I think camping is out just because of safety issues with water, woods, etc.

So, what WILL work well for us? My best idea so far is just staying a night or two in a hotel with a nice water park. That should be fun, pretty well contained, tire the kids out (lol), etc. I guess it's also my only idea. Anyone have anything else?

We loved Disney - stayed off property at a time share, it was great and DS was only 2.5 when we went. Just make sure to not over schedule and schedule in "down time".

LOL...I should have clarified. This will be a one or two night (max) deal, and we need inexpensive. The flight alone from Northern MN for just DH or I would be more than our vacation budget for the year ;)

We will be doing Disney. In 2015...I'm serious, we are actively planning and setting $ away. It was supposed to be 2013, but then we got pg with Sephrya. We don't want to deal with Disney with any kids under 7 (has to be able to carry her own backpack, be able to handle the park for a good portion of the day, etc) and have some of a reading base in case she gets lost.

But, if money were not an issue, that would be a great idea!

Theresa, I think the idea of a hotel either with the water park or next to a water park or activity area is a great idea.
