10 mos today & BAD thrush!!!

I am in DESPERATE need of help. Marcus (10 mos today) has been on Augmenten for the past 7 days now for double pnuemonia. Almost instantly after taking it, he developed thrush which then of course spread to me. I went and saw my obgyn on Monday and she told me to use Genitian Violet and monistat cream. And my ds ped prescribed him Oral Nystatin and the cream nystatin for the diaper area and for myself as well. His is nearly gone you can only see a trace amount on his diaper area. I, on the other hand, have it still bad on my breasts and today it has also spread "downstairs". I have been eating 3 servings of yogurt a day as well as feeding it to my son. And I have been using ALL the creams and the violet as well. Nothing is working and when he nurses I have to fight the urge to quikly throw him off. My left nipple bleeds all the time and the itching and burning is making me feel like I am going insane!!!

What more can I do????? I should also add that Marcus will NOT drink from ANYTHING but the breast. We have taken him to a speech therapist to try and get him to take a bottle, sippy cup, anything. But even she was unable to get the stubborn kid to go for them. The only way to get him to drink anything but BM, is to drip it into his mouth with a suringe. So, weening is out of the question. Plus, I really wanted to nurse him for 12 mos at least. My mom and others have told me it'll all clear up if I just stop nursing. But, I can't even if I wanted to.

Please tell me one of you has an awesome fast miracle cure????????

Thanks,

Desperately itchy,

Amber

Call you ob and ask for difflucan stat.

Take a look at this: http://breastfeeding.hypermart.net/thrush.html

My favorite is the GSE tablets. They saved me. I also like the APNO but I make my own using equal parts of polysporin, lotrimin, and hydrocortisone cream.

Air out after every feeding. And wash well anything that came into contact with it, I use liquid GSE in the wash.

I called the PA this morning and after practically BEGGING her to prescribed me something other than gentian violet, she prescribed me the Difflucan. She was only going to give me the 200mg but I demanded more. Thank you so much for your advice and link. I am PRAYING that this works and I finally get some relief.

Thanks again,

Amber

You're welcome. I hope it works. I keep the GSE on hand and any time I get that twinge I start popping them. Thrush sucks!

Ugh, I'm so sorry. I don't have much advice, as someone who has tried to get rid of thrush but it just hangs around the whole time we're breastfeeding (mine isn't as bad as yours though...ouchie!). Diflucan didn't seem to work for me but it does for most people, I've heard.

Good luck!
