((HUGS)) to you and your little guy! Definitely do NOT stop bfing. It is very, very easily digested. Even if he throws up 10 minutes after nursing, he's digesting a good amount in that time.
Watch his urine color. If it stays good, he's hydrated. If you choose to give Pedialyte, do it only in ADDITION to bfing, not in replacement of bfing...note the list of 'signs of dehydration.
Please don't hesitate to call the doc if you think it's necessary. You can always leave any bad advice they give re: bfing/Pedialyte. If you want to call the doc, by all means, do so :)
I just thought I would add this link. I dont know if he's still vomiting or not. Just ignore the oral rehydration therapy part of the article unless you are giving it before and after breastfeeding.
I do know that water can make things worse. :o( I wouldnt give anything to eat at all until 8 hours after vomiting stops because the stomach needs to rest. You can keep starting the cycle of vomiting over and over again. Once you do start reintroducing foods do it really slow and follow the brat diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) I know its hard to tell them they cant eat but it really is best until they are done with the vomiting.
I hope he is feeling better soon. You stay well momma...these things are contagious. Stomach viruses are the worst!
Hugs Ashley!! I hope he's feeling a bit better by now! Abby had that at about 4months or so, so being younger all I did was bf her anyway, but I would offer as much as possible still, maybe more that normal even. And koodo's to your doctor's office! I would also back off the food, chicken soup is a bit greasy and may upset his tummy more, maybe just some cherrioes or dry toast to chew on??? HUGS!! Let us know how it's going tonight!
Is it possible he has Rotavirus? This is a very common virus that starts often with vomiting and progresses into diarreah. Marah Jade had it in Feb of this year but it started with pooping then vomiting. It lasted 9 days for us. You can confirm it with a stool sample. I ended up calling the emergency room and they told me to keep nursing her and if she got lethargic to bring her in for an IV. Nursing seemed to deaden the gag reflex and make her puke less.
