clogged duct question

I had what I think was a clogged milk duct (my DS is 10 months)last weekend. Rested, massage, heat and no more pain by last Sunday. I still have a lump where the pain was...is that normal? Should I still be massaging, heating and favoring that breast even though it feels totally fine?

Should I see my midwife even though no pain, fever or anything else?

THANKS,
Brenda

Hi Brenda-

If you still feel something, I'd probably still try to work on it. Have you tried the 'dunk and dangle' and/or an electric toothbrush to try and break it up?

LOL.....
dunk and dangle??? Is that soaking the breast in warm water???
Electrric toothbrush??? Please explain!

The only thing I have been doing is compression/massage while I am feeding and the lump is still there.

THANKS so much,
Brenda

Dunk and dangle is soaking the affected area in water as hot as you can stand (don't burn yourself!) to try and break it up. Then, nurse baby while the breasts 'dangles' over her, using gravity to help things as much as possible. http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mom/mastitis.html#usualtreatment

An electric toothbrush over the duct can sometiems break it up, too.

GL and follow up with any addl ?s!
