Help! She won't eat! 10 months

My DD is 10 months old and I think eating has become a total playtime. I posted about her being a wild nurser. I've been taking her off when she digs her toes into me or gets really wild. Well, now we have a new problem!

For the last 2 days whenever I try to feed her she won't eat. She eats for like 30 seconds or a minute (2 minutes most) and then pops off and smiles and laughs. Then she relatches and does this again and again.

Even last night in the middle of the night (which is usually her calm feed since shes pretty much asleep) she only ate for a few minutes each side and then popped off.

I feel like she is getting no milk because she barely spending any time eating.

What do I do?

First, how are her wet diapers going? If she is wetting, she is getting milk. Unless of course, you have been filling her up on some other fluid instead of breast milk.

A baby can be a very efficient nurser at this age, and can be getting a lot more than you would think in a few minutes. So if the diapers are alright, she is getting enough.

If they are not, then you need to do something. Have you tried nursing in a darkened room/quiet place?

How are you going now?

Some babies go through a nursing strike, if this is what is going on, it can absolutely be turned around.

Other reasons for not nursing well can be related to teething - sometimes babies even have a few teeth coming through at once, and this makes nursing uncomfortable. Treatment for the pain they are having will help.

Sometimes it is also a sign of them being sick or having sore ears. Sometimes babies will nurse more when sick, but if they have sore ears or a sore throat, it can be uncomfortable. Are there any signs of anything like that?

This morning was a little better. I don't think its any of the things you mentioned. She doesn't seem to be refusing... it's more like she is playing and she unlatches because she thinks it's funny. Then relatches, drinks a little, and then does it again.

I'm watching her wet diapers today to see how she does. She had like 4 yesterday so I am watching to see if she does better today.

It could be that you are dealing a distractible baby. 8-10 months is a common time for this phase to show up. Try reading the following article and see if it offers any advice that helps:
