I made it to 6 months, which was my minimum goal of bf'ing, although I want to make it to the year mark.

I do not think you are in denial - 6 month old babies do NOT wean themselves. They still physically and emotionally NEED to nurse. It is HIGHLY unusual for a child this young to wean on their own. "Child-led weaning occurs when a child no longer has a need to nurse - nutritionally or emotionally. It's relatively unusual for a baby younger than 18-24 months to self-wean if they are not being encouraged in that direction." At this age it is a nursing strike NOT weaning. The earliest mom should consider weaning is 1 year, but the WHO, AAFP and other health organizations recommend BF for AT LEAST 2 years.

How much is baby getting in the way of solids? the MAXIMUM for a 6 month old is 1-2 tablespoons once per day. Many 6 month olds have not even started solids or are only getting them a coupel times a week. To many solids can led to a decrease in breastmilk intake and low weight gain since solids have fewer fats and calories than breastmilk.

IS baby BF at all? How many times in 24 hours is baby nursing? You said baby is Fussing at the breast, is this at EVERY session or just some? Have you tried different positions? If baby fusses do you try again in 15 minutes? Or if nto what do you do? How much EBM in the cup? I am trying to get an idea of what is happening, sorry for all the questions.

Have you looked at reasons for fussy nursing behavior? Distracted, ill, teething is a big one at this age. more on fussy nursing: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/baby/fussy-while-nursing.html

I can understand you may not "want" to pump exclusivly but keep in mind that it is not unusual for a baby this age to refuse formula completely. ALso your own pumped breast milk is better since it is the biological norm and formula does have its own set of risks. So pumping short term while working on getting baby back to the breast would be a good idea.

Personally I would not be offering juice at this age. If you want to give something other than BM I would give a sip or two of plain water in a sippy.

Take a spin through the links and follow up with questions and we can go from there.

My DD is very fussy at the breast lately and we finally figured out that it is teething. I do a dose of tylenol about 20 min before she eats and now she is eating fine.
