How often for a 9 month old

I know there is no concrete answer to my question, but I just thought that maybe someone might shed some light on this area!
I gave up too easy with my DS so BFing is all new to me...
Amelia will be 9 months on Tuesday and I was wondering if I am nursing her too often. Sometimes I nurse her just because....She generally nurses 6 times a day and gets a sippy of water at all three meals. She also just started getting an afternoon snack because she wasn't getting full with nursing. Well, now I nurse her at 5 pm out of habit and I am afraid that she really doesn't need it. I am working on dinner from 5-6 and she eats with us at 6 (having her afternoon snack at 4:15 ish without a nursing until 5). She is on 75-90 % finger foods as she hates almost all baby food that I made (so now I have a freezer full of homemade baby food she won't eat but that is another rant).
So, how often does a 9 month old nurse (who is off the charts for both weight and height and STTN)...What are the cues that she doesn't want to nurse and I am just doing it out of habit? Any input is welcome!

Hello!

If you're hoping to nurse to at least the 12 month mark, 6 sessions at 9 months is

I don't think it is wrong for her to nurse for emotional reasons, but she isn't even asking to nurse at 5, I am just in the habit of doing it...and she eats 3 meals a day because she gets mad if she doesn't get food when the rest of us are eating...

In my experience, if a baby doesn't want to nurse - they won't.

Agreed that what you're doing sounds just right. Jason was still nursing WAY more often than that at 9 months and nowhere close to STTN. If she doesn't want it, she won't nurse.

Yup, mine's the same age and won't nurse if she doesn't want it either, so I think what you're doing is fine!

My LO is 9 months and also STTN

She nurses 4 x per day and has for a long time.

She won't nurse if she does not want to.

She also eats three meals a day and takes a sippy of water sometimes too.

When are you nursing- times and times of meals and naps etc?

Just wondering?

thanks!

Her schedule is usually like this:
6:00 am nursing
8:00 am breakfast
9:30 am nursing
9:45-11:00 am nap
11:45 am nursing
12:30 pm lunch
2:30 pm nursing
2:45-4:00 pm nap
4:20ish snack (like graham crackers and usually only one square)
5:00 pm nursing
6:00 pm dinner
7:45 pm nursing
8:00 pm bed

Sometimes it feels like the 11:45 and 5:00 pm nursings are out of habit...more like a quick snack to tide her over until meals...I don't mind the quick snacks, plus I think it helps keep my supply up, which it never was "huge" anyway. I also pump after the morning feeding because she usually only nurses on one side. What does your schedule look like?

hi! other ppl have good info about how often for nursing - i just noticed your line about all the rejected homemade babyfood in the freezer. if you don't want it to go to waste, could you at least make soup? i did that with some that was left from my DS, and it made me feel at least a little better =)
