I need some advice.

I have been wanting to lose weight but dieting and exercising alone has never helped me. I was wondering if the acai berry detox and colon cleanse is safe for me to use while nursing my 7 month old. And if it's not is there anything that you could recommend that is safe? I would really appreciate some help here. Thank you in advance.

One of the things I learnt in my years as a leader for Weight Watchers is that first you do have to give the body -good nutrition (I am not saying you don't) and a fair amount of it. Just a little under what you need to maintain weight.

Strict diets with far fewer calories than you need may work for a little while, but they soon stop working and your weight plateaus or even increases. Paradoxical, given what we are told all the time. But if you are not giving your body anywhere near enough, people seem to go into 'starvation mode' where their body thinks there is a famine on, and the metabolism slows, and the body hangs onto every bit of body fat it has.

So the Weight Watchers plan for nursing mothers actually has a huge amount of food -and people do lose weight with it. Something like that is worth investigating. You do need more food than a non-nursing woman who is on a weight loss diet.

I personally would avoid detox and colon cleanses anytime bf or not.

Having said that, some women loose weight very easily while nursing (i did) and others seem to find a last few kilos being very stubborn.

Hi alicia=

Welcome! I was a woman that saw an initital drop the first months after baby was born, and then I stalled out the last 15-20 pounds until baby was over a year.

I've not seen anything on any of the detox products in regards to bfing, unfortunately. Someone else just asked about it as well.

Remember that it took you 9 months to put that weight on...it's not unfair to give it at LEAST that amount of time to get it off. Do you mind sharing how much you have lost and how much more are you looking to lose?

WW and Body For Life are both approved to use while bfing. Have you tried those programs at all?

Can you give us a glimpse into a day/week of food, meals, exercise? I'm not saying that you're NOT already doing good stuff, just that there are a lot of btdt that may have some ideas for you.

I'll see what I can find on the detox/cleanse products
