When mom gets sick some people mistakenly think it would be best if the baby was fed previously pumped EBM or formula until the mom is better under the mistaken belief that by continuing breastfeeding she is putting her child at an unnecessary rusk for getting sick too. The reality is that by the time the mom is generally showing symptoms of an illness then she has likely already exposed her infant to that illness so temporarily stopping BFing is not going to prevent the child form getting sick in most cases. If the child does get sick BFing can help the child get well faster due to the antibodies the mom is producing that she will pass on to th0e baby via her breastmilk. Also, if the baby suffers from an type of illness that causes throwing up or diarrhea, then BFing is a real benefit since breastmilk is easier to digest then many other food or drink including formula. Here is some more info on BFing during a illness: http://kellymom.com/health/illness/mom-illness.html
