long-term Mastitis? ok to not nurse?

i seem to have had a long-term mastitis infection.

i have had dull aches nearly all the time in the breast for about 3 weeks.

i had a bad congested head cold that lasted 3 wks but DS had one right before i got it so i didn't think it was mastitis.

the head cold seems to return if i get tired and the dull pain is now continuing.

i just really had to stop nursing. i tried to get the milk out 3 nights ago but DS was too tired to really suck. the breast pump yields nothing but a few drops in the shield. if i put DS on and he doesn't seem to get anything, do i have to keep him on more than 5-10 min? i need to stop nursing as it is so i'd rather not.

it's been about 10 dys since i nursed last (and over a week had elapsed prior to that one).

do i need to nurse? is it ok to take the same antibiotic i've taken 2-3 times in the last 18 months for the 3 mastitis infections i've had in this breast? last time was probably 10+ months ago. thanks

The "dull aches" in the breast really do not sound like mastitis - mastitis makes you feel like you have the worst flu ever.

You should probably visit with your dr for a checkup or see an LC to assess the situation.

i only have the breast aches when i have the cold symptoms also.

i've been nursing only once a week for 3 wks.

when i take the antibiotic i don't have the breast aches anymore.

i skipped a day of the antibiotics and it came right back.

i have full breasts now but not painfully engorged.

i hope i don't have to nurse and can just take the antibiotic
