Jennifer, I'm going to flag Kathy, our board LC for you.

Sure hate it when they suggest "starving" baby into submission - that's horrible!

Hi Jennifer,

I belong to the Aug '06 board. There is a mom there who found out she has IBC (irritable breast Cancer) right before having her baby. Her name is Maggie, and I am sure she'll be glad to give you any pointers about it (like what her symptoms were, etc.) I think her "screen name" is maggie333.

Good luck with your tests. I don't think she's bf because she is undergoing cancer treatment.

Take care! I'm sorry to hear that you are going through this. I had mastitis once, and it was terrible. I can only imagine having it again and again. Although it is scary, I am glad to hear that your doctor is taking inflammatory breast cancer seriously. It is too often ignored as even a remote possibility. It's good to know that you are with a doctor who is informed.

My prayers are with you.

Going to flag my husband who is a massage therapist and is currently researching breast massage. I will get back to you ASAP.

Ok, talked w/ him and he said "absolutely you need to be getting lympatic massage". I am going to quote a book titled "Breast Massage"
.... "Whether the woman is taking antibiotics or not, cold hydrotherapy can be very effective in helping to manage pain and inflammation, and gentle lymphatic drainage can be used to help reduce congestion. However, any on-site massage techniques involving direct pressure are strongly contraindicated until the infection has subsided."

There is a wrap that the book suggests that I can explain to you if you desire. Let me know and I will post it here.

Haven't read the other posts, but has the possibility of resistant strains of bacteria been looked into?

I think you are going the right route to rule out abcess and the scary "C" word. As for finding a qualified massage therapist....where are you located? Try this site http://www.amtamassage.org/findamassage/locator.htm or you can try calling a local school and tell them you are looking for someone that is experienced w/ lymphatic and/or breast massage.

Please let me know what else you need.
