Hi. DS is 8 months old. He currently has an enormous appetite when it comes to solid foods... eating just about everything we eat. Lots of steamed

As I'm sure you know this is a LOT of solid food for an 8 month old. Ideally, at 12 months, breastmilk or formula would still make up AT LEAST 50 percent of his diet. At 8 months, it would be expected to comprise a bit more. Do you always nurse BEFORE offering solid meals? Nursing before solid meals ensures he's not too full to nurse.

It sounds like he's growing well currently, which is good. His diaper output is good, so that's also good. To answer your specific question, at 8 months, baby should still be receiving AT LEAST 5 nursing sessions / day. And many, many 8 mos old babies are still nursing more than that.

Here's a good sample menu:

If you can figure out a way to squeeze in and extra nursing session or two, that would be great for him.

Thanks for the link. It actually appears that he's right on target for the 9 month eating schedule....which he will be in 4 weeks. His eating habits aren't any different from DS1's, but he was FF from 12 weeks on, so I was able to know the # of oz.

Thanks again :)
M
