My DS Ivy has been nursing GREAT since birth. Then this past Wednesday, she had a bad cold and when she was nursing down for her nap, she bit me. It hurt so bad, and I screamed and the scream terrified her. Then a minute later, she bit the other nipple and once again I terrified her by accidentally screaming.
Since then, 4 full days now, she has absolutely refused the breast. She pushes away if I put her near the breast, and she shuts her mouth tightly. I've tried everything I could find on the net, talked to 2 lactation consultants, one who is a friend and one from the birth center where I had her. I've tried in the middle of the night multiple times while shes sleeping. I've tried skin to skin. Tried while rocking her. I even putting vanilla frosting on my nipple and she still wouldn't go near it. I tried not feeding her all day. Nothing is working. And I am devastated, as I was really planning on breastfeeding for another 7 months or so.
I know some people would say, oh well you had almost 11 months, you should be grateful for the time you had. My husband has a medical condition and we really hoped to be able to breast feed as long as possible to give her the best possible start.
I have been pumping about every 2-3 hours during the day and I just hope I can get her to start again.
